Talking about Summer fun days out and children’s Summer holidays I would like to introduce you to a friend of Donegal Mammy,  Erin, our guest blogger this week.

Erin is from Coolestplaceontheplanet instagram.

A great explorer of Donegal , she has put together some ideas and suggestions on where to go either with the family or for an escape from Donegal Mammy duties!

Heres her story..I’ve spent the last 15 years travelling, hiking, trekking, running and eating all around the world.  When I moved home to Donegal recently, I decided I still wanted to do all those things I loved, but I wanted to do them here, in Donegal. I wanted to be able to say to my friends come to Donegal and do this and this and this…..Coolestplaceontheplanet was born in Jan 2018; I challenged myself to really get to know my home county. I now spend every week and especially weekends discovering what there is to do on my own doorstep and I love every minute of it!I’ve put together 5 days out with a bit of everything thrown in (walking/beaches/eating/drinking and loads of laughing!).Some are perfect for families, others, if friends are visiting or just for you if you can escape with adults exploring Donegal. They are in no particular order or geographical plan just one off days to follow as you please.

DAY 1
Start with a breakfast and coffee at Tank & Skinny in Muff making your way into Moville for a paddle board or kayaking trip with inish adventures. Prefer a walk?     Take the coastal walk from Moville to Greencastle (roughly 1 hour along the water with stunning views), there are lovely wee picnic areas along the walk so why not bring your own and have lunch with lots of views while the kids splash in water.
Still got energy?
Drive 10 mins onto Strove and have a swim in the crystal waters or a walk around Strove lighthouse.
DAY 2
This time we are off the west to Cruit Island.
Park your car up at the grave yard and walk to the tip (roughly 3.5k) taking in 12 of the most stunning beaches you will ever see.
Hungry?  Great spots for a picnic but if you forgot, make your way to Burtonport and try everything fresh, delicious fish from The Lobster Pot ️
DAY 3
This time it’s down South Donegal:
Making your way through killybegs stopping at the Largy view point for a coffee and views down to Sligo & Mayo.
Keep following the coastal road and make stops at Fintra beach and Muckross head (caves and cliff walk) continue to the Bunglass Sliabh Liag viewing point and stand in awe!
2 mins down the road pop in for a bite at the Rusty Mackerel and taste the best ever Chowder with a glass of
DAY 4
Up next make your way to Marblehill beach and grab a coffee at The Shack, drive through Dunfanaghy and take the turn for Hornhead (even better, rent bikes in Dunfanaghy and cycle this) it will literally take your breath away!
Why not have a wee surf with the gang in Narosa surf while in Dunfanghy and grab a bite to eat at the Rusty oven (pizza that will please all ages!) and if you are on a Donegal Mammy escape enjoy a little drink in Patsy Dans as you listen to one of their live trad session️
DAY 5
Last but definitely not least is a day in East Donegal for the whole family, make your way to Raphoe and seek out The Beltany Stone Circle (a round circle over looking Croaghan Hill), after, get yourself to Oakfield Park.
Walk the 100 acres of gardens (well not all of them!) and take the train ride, a real hit with the kids. Bring a picnic or grab some tasty food in their restaurant and leave feeling totally refreshed and ready to face the rest of the holidays!
I could literally sit here all day writing and talking about Donegal and things you should all do but come follow me on Instagram and see for yourself…there’s lots of hikes, surfing, horse riding, marathon running, eating, paddle boarding, trekking……the list goes on!!
